IWCT
Equally passionate and committed,
the IWCT people, specifically Charles
Wartenberg, continue to find ways and means
in raising fund for the Philippine dog rescue operation.
With the ever increasing cost of maintaining the rescue
center and covering its expansion projects, the Charles
is determined to come out on top and prove that the
wicked dog-meat trade can be wiped out even if they
are working for it thousands of miles away.
Charles comes to
the Philippines 4 times a year and spends a period
of 5 weeks . He meets top government officials to
lobby for support and propose amendments of pertinent
laws that benefit the Philippine dogs. Ultimately,
the support of the Philippine government, which is
becoming more positive each time, shall pave the way
for IWCT/AKF in
attaining its objectives. Our latest triumph in this
area is the signing of a new law – Anti-Rabies
Law (RA 9482)– that punishes the offenders of
animal-welfare regulation with far more strict penalties
plus an automatic 1 year imprisonment.
Similarly, our thrust in providing
knowledge and wider awareness for the Philippines
in taking care of its dogs is moving along well. Charles
grants interviews and allow the media, Philippine
and international media, in observing risky rescue
operations. Based on the daily news of the top two
Philippine television networks, animal-welfare issues
are now integrated in their primetime news segments,
whereas, this is not the case a few years ago.
