Animal Day
with the
Boy Scouts
Manila
- Last October 1, 2004, in simultaneous
celebrations of Scouting Month
and Animal Day, Animal Kingdom
Foundation Inc. joined the Boy
Scouts of the Philippines in
a one-day fair for the said
events.
The fair was held at the grounds
of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines
National Headquarters. The AKF
Inc. crew Suzanne Llanera, Winston
Samaniego and Brando Gegway
put up a booth cum tent, and
conducted information dissemination
on animal welfare to thousands
of Boy Scouts and visitors who
attended the affair. The AKF
Inc. crew gave out newsletters,
pamphlets and postcards of "Sweet"
the rescued mongrel
who became "Dog
of the Year 2004" in
the United Kingdom. The AKF
Inc. crew likewise had video
presentations of animal welfare
success stories and the group's
achievements.
The highlight of AKF Inc.'s
participation in that fair was
the signing of a petition by
hundreds of Boy Scouts for President
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to help
promote Animal Welfare, and
to urge her government to give
Animal Welfare top priority.

La
Union
- As Animal Kingdom Foundation
Inc. continues to gain ground
in the war against the dog meat
trade, another strategy was
added to maximize efforts in
achieving total victory.
Operatives of the Animal Kingdom
Foundation Inc. with the assistance
of the Philippine National Police,
begun setting up road blocks
to intercept the vehicles carrying
live dogs from dog traders in
Laguna and Batangas.
These roadblocks or ambush points
were set up along the |
main
routes used by the dog trader
in bringing their live cargoes
to the dog meat markets and
restaurants up north in Baguio
.
These interceptions along the
highway in La Union going to
Baguio resulted in the arrest
of seven dog traders from Laguna
and Batangas. From four interception
operations the AKFInc./ PNP
team were able to rescue a total
of 200 dogs, which were then
taken to the care of the Manila
City pound and the San Fernando
City Pound. (LMBJr.) |
